(AFP, Washington, March 5) The United States began imposing a 25% tariff on goods from Canada and Mexico yesterday, but the White House announced today that the auto tariffs on Canada and Mexico will be delayed by one month.
According to AFP, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that U.S. officials have held discussions with major automakers, including Stellantis, Ford Motor, and General Motors (GM).
Leavitt further noted, “We will grant a one-month tariff exemption for any vehicles entering through the USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement).”
Per Bloomberg News, the White House said today that U.S. President Donald Trump, responding to calls from industry leaders, will provide automakers with a one-month exemption from the tariffs imposed on Canada and Mexico.
